Intermediate Rail Unit: Features
RailRunner’s™ Intermediate Rail Vehicle (IRV), or bogie, is a key part of its unique bi-modal technology. This bogie transforms the RailRunner chassis and/or road vehicle from highway equipment to a high-speed rail vehicle. Features of RailRunner’s bogie include:
- High Speed Capability: RailRunner's bogie has passed all AAR required tests at 70 MPH and runs smoothly at speeds up to 100+ miles per hour.
- Wheel Wear: RailRunner offers radial steering that mitigates wheel wear and tear, reduces maintenance costs and extends product life.
- Smooth Ride Design: Slack-less coupling and airbag suspension on bogie insures damage free transportation and attracts fragile, high-value payloads to rail lanes. The slack free RailRunner coupler provides almost 100% less slack than conventional intermodal and 95% less slack than typical double stack.
- Rail Car Components: RailRunner bogies are equipped with standard, commercially available railcar equipment. Wheels, axles, bolsters, air cushions and braking systems all are built from standard railroad components.
- Symmetrical, Easy-to-Load Design: Each RailRunner Rail Bogie is symmetric and can couple into either the front or rear of RailRunner’s special Chassis. A patented wedge-shaped, self-guiding design assures easy coupling between the chassis and bogie, and a failsafe-locking pin secures the chassis coupler to the bogie.
