Transition Unit: Features

The RailRunner Transition Unit (or Transition Rail Vehicle) provides the means of coupling RailRunner containers/chassis to standard locomotives and railcars that are equipped with conventional railroad knuckle couplers (RailRunner couplers are specially designed).

One end of the TRV has the standard knuckle coupler and the other end has a RailRunner coupler. The RailRunner coupler end of the TRV attaches to the front coupler/kingpin of the lead RailRunner chassis/container. The knuckle coupler of the TRV attaches to the locomotive or railcar. No modification to the RailRunner chassis is required. Each TU has a hand-bar, cross-over table and access ladder on both sides.
